Some people love history only when it flatters them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They pick one convenient page, hide the rest, and sell it as truth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The latest version is loud and simple. \u201cOur ancestors faced British bullets. Yours collaborated.\u201d It is aimed straight at Hindus, at the RSS, at anyone who refuses to accept permanent second-class status in the story of this land. It sounds powerful on a stage. It collapses the moment the full record is opened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Start with 1857.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hindus and Muslims both fought. Nana Sahib, Tatya Tope, Rani Lakshmibai stood and died. Bahadur Shah Zafar, Begum Hazrat Mahal and others also fought. Ordinary soldiers from both communities fell. That is fact. No serious Hindu denies the shared blood of that year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But look at what happened next.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Muslim League was never a freedom army. It was created to protect and expand Muslim political power under British patronage. Sir Syed\u2019s Aligarh line taught loyalty to the British as the safer route for Muslims. The League followed that path for decades. When Hindus and Congress launched mass movements, the League often stayed away or cut separate deals with the Raj.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Now come to the decisive year: 1942.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Congress launched Quit India. Hindu and other leaders filled the jails by the thousand. The British came down with full force. What did the Muslim League do? It refused to join. Jinnah and the League used those years of Congress weakness to grow their organisation and harden the demand for Pakistan. While the bulk of the nationalist movement was being crushed, the League stayed largely on the side of the administration. That is not a minor detail. That is the central political reality of the final phase of the freedom struggle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Some individual Muslims and some Deobandi voices did oppose the British. They deserve honest mention. Pretending the League as a whole stood for a free, united India is pure fiction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Now the other side of the selective attack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The RSS was founded in 1925 with a clear civilisational purpose: organise Hindu society, build discipline, and prepare for the long contest over the character of this land. As an organisation it stayed out of the Congress-led street movements. British records noted that the Sangh kept within the law during 1942. Its leaders chose the harder, quieter work of consolidating Hindu strength rather than temporary slogans. That record is true. No amount of later abuse changes the documents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Hindu Mahasabha under Savarkar spoke of responsive cooperation at certain points and even shared power with the League in some provinces. That too belongs in the full record.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
So the clean binary that is being sold today is false.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Both communities had people who fought.
Both had people who stayed away or calculated differently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The difference is this: one side is allowed to claim permanent purity and permanent victimhood. The other is permanently branded collaborator. That is not history. That is a political project aimed at keeping Hindus apologetic about their own past and hesitant about their own future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Selective history works because most people never read beyond the speech. A line that says \u201cwe faced the bullets, you bowed\u201d needs no evidence. It only needs emotion and repetition. The full picture requires admitting that the League\u2019s real priority in the 1940s was a separate Muslim state, not the freedom of a united Bharat. It requires admitting that the RSS chose the long work of Hindu organisation over short-term street confrontation. It requires admitting that many ordinary people of both communities simply tried to survive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One-liners that erase this complexity are not bravery. They are intellectual laziness in service of a political agenda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
History is not a team sport that hands out clean jerseys.
It is a record of choices made under pressure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
When leaders use the past only to keep Hindus on the defensive, they insult every Hindu who actually fought and died. The man who fell in 1857 did not die so that someone in 2026 could score a communal point against the majority community of this land. The person who went to jail in 1942 did not suffer so that selective memory could become a weapon against Hindu assertion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The real record is messy.
Messy does not mean equal moral weight for every decision.
It means the story is longer and less convenient than the slogan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hindus who fought deserve to be remembered without apology.
Muslims who fought deserve accurate mention.
Organisations that stayed away or cooperated must also be recorded without the comfort of erasure or exaggeration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The moment history is turned into a tool to prove that Hindus must forever carry the label of collaborator while another community claims permanent purity, it stops being history. It becomes propaganda designed to weaken the majority\u2019s confidence in its own civilisational continuity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Bharat\u2019s freedom was not the gift of one pure group. It was the result of many streams. The British left because the cost of staying became too high. No community has a monopoly on courage or on compromise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Anyone selling a cleaner, angrier, one-sided story is not defending history.
They are defending a political project that needs Hindus to feel permanently guilty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
